Principal

I am grateful to serve as Principal at Dakota Meadows Middle School. I believe that all students have the potential for greatness and it is our job as educators to cultivate that greatness. Middle school is an exciting time for students. Each year students will transition and grow academically, emotionally, and socially. They will acquire new skills that will enhance their ability to apply their learning. We are committed to providing a challenging and rigorous learning environment that fosters collaboration and individual growth.

I have been an educator for 20 years and have taught elementary and middle school students in Rochester, MN and Burnsville, MN. I served as the Dean of Students and Assistant Principal at Prairie Winds and Dakota Meadows Middle School for five years prior to becoming the principal. I have three children, including one middle schooler, and am married to a middle school teacher.

Michelle Henderson
Assistant Principal

Greetings,

My name is Michelle Henderson, and I am honored to serve as the new Assistant Principal at Dakota Meadows Middle School. I’m thrilled to join a school community that is deeply committed to fostering a culture of belonging and academic excellence.

With over 20 years of experience in education, I’ve had the privilege of serving as a School Counselor and, for the past three years, as a Dean of Students at a middle school. I began my career in Colorado and have spent the last 13 years working in Burnsville. My journey in education has grounded me in a deep appreciation for equity, relationship-building, high academic standards, and collaboration. I have a passion for doing whatever it takes to help every student thrive. These values align closely with the MAPS mission: Excellence, Equity, Empowerment — Every Student, Every Day.

I strongly believe in building meaningful relationships with students, staff, and families. I am committed to maintaining a school culture where every individual feels seen, valued, and supported. My leadership style is rooted in equity, empathy, and accountability, and I am excited to partner with our dedicated educators to further student achievement and well-being at Dakota Meadows Middle School.

Outside of school, I enjoy being outdoors year-round and exploring everything Minnesota has to offer. My husband and I have three grown children, three dogs, two cats, and a fish — there’s never a dull moment at home! I look forward to meeting each of you and partnering together for a successful and inspiring school year.
